From personal failure - to Godly success

A man billed as the World's most traveled musician, is set to put his life and faith on show at London 2012.

Benny Prasad, who has been certified as having visited every country in the world in the shortest time ever, will be showcasing his amazing guitarskills to sports fans, as they arrive in London for the Games.

But Indian born Benny, who travelled the globe by boat, plane, bus, car and train in a mere six years, six months and 22 days, takes his inspiration directly from God.

His big smile stems from the knowledge that his life has meaning – which he finds in Jesus.

He said: “I want people to know that I’m someone who was always seen as a failure. But, with God, failure is never final."

Having overcome major health problems in early childhood, Benny was expected to excell at everything he did, but he could not live up to the expectations of those around him, and believed himself to be a failure.

And the man who went on to invent two new types of guitar, and to travel the world playing them, was even sent home from his first guitar lesson with the words, ‘Don’t come back as you have no musical ability and will never make a guitarist,’ ringing in his ears.

His sense of personal failure, and of having let down his parents, led to a bout of depression, culminating in an attempt at suicide, aged only 16.

It was at that point, that he accepted an invitation to attend a Christian youth camp, and saw his life turn around.

He explained: “God said to me ‘Benny, even though you have been useless all your life, I need you now and I can make you a new creation.’ And God gave me new dreams, new goals, and a positive desire.”

Now Benny travels the world, and performs for free to audiences large and small, using his two self-designed instruments, the ‘Bentar’ a 54 string guitar, and the world’s first bongo guitar.

And he has been honoured for his prodigious appetite for travelling, which has taken him way beyond the beaten track, and has filled a dozen or so passports. His achievements have been honoured by the World Records Academy USA, and he is officially recognised as the world’s most travelled Indian musician.

Benny is one of the performers from over 30 nations who are contributing 700 free performances as a welcome to visitors and to help churches reach out to their communities.
