The author looks for the biblical answers to the problem of suffering. In chapter 1, he considers various opinions on the matter, and then in the remaining chapters considers the biblical cases of Job, Asaph, and the early church. He also looks at the opposition Jesus, himself, faced. From these cases the author provides important basics regarding the purposes and benefits of suffering. This is not a glib book, he admits that in many cases it is not possible to explain the suffering, except to say that God knows why it happened
