Isn’t the Bible sexist and homophobic? is a Peter Williams talk recorded at Keswick Convention - 2017 on Bible Interpretation available as CD format. The big objection in the 19th century was that the Bible isn't true. The big objection in the late 20th century has been that it's not fair. In this series we look first at the objection that scripture is immoral because it is untrue. Then we go through some of today's biggest moral objections to the Bible: what are we to make of war in the Old Testament? What about God commanding the destruction of nations? Doesn't the Bible support slavery? Doesn't the Old
Testament support polygamy? Isn't the Bible as a whole sexist? Isn't it homophobic? How can it be our moral guide today? Isn't the whole thing simply too weird? Can't we have Christianity without such a rigid attachment to the Bible? Isn't the Bible sexist and homophobic? This is not a pastoral support session for those who have wrongly suffered disadvantage (though that's important) but explains the alternative Christian and secular accounts of who humans really are and how classic Christian views are best for us all. A talk by Pete Williams, part four of a four part series.
