For clergy, chaplains and those with pastoral responsibility, requests to conduct blessings are frequent. During the author ’s own time in ministry, among the many items he was asked to consecrate were hymnbooks, chairs, banners, memorial plaques, a cross and an electronic piano, a church lounge, an amplification system, hi-fi, and a tent! Then, of course, there were blessings at births and baptisms, weddings and funerals, together with those at hospitals, nursing homes, social events, church fairs, shared meals and the Lord ’s Supper. And the list goes on.
