For clergy, chaplains and those with pastoral responsibility, requests to conduct blessings are frequent. During the author ’s own time in ministry, among the many items he was asked to consecrate were hymnbooks, chairs, banners, memorial plaques, a cross and an electronic piano, a church lounge, an amplification system, hi-fi, and a tent! Then, of course, there were blessings at births and baptisms, weddings and funerals, together with those at hospitals, nursing homes, social events, church fairs, shared meals and the Lord ’s Supper. And the list goes on. While no book can cover every contingency, God Bless You provides a resource covering a broad spectrum of life, both within the church and further afield – the choice of subjects reflecting the conviction that God is much involved in the secular as the ‘sacred ’, in the everyday world of work as the Sunday world of worship.
